About

NEPTUN

Project Neptun involves the establishment of a large scale facility for the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia in Tromsø, Norway. Tromsø is a major Norwegian port and marine hub. We see the Neptun project as a significant effort towards the green shift.

The carbon-free ammonia is produced by capturing nitrogen from the air and combining it with green hydrogen. The energy used in the hydrogen (H2) and ammonia (NH3) production processes is supplied from regional hydro and wind power plants providing reliable renewable and clean energy.

TYPES OF

AMMONIA

Green

Green ammonia is produced using renewable/green energy sources to extract hydrogen from water, and nitrogen from air. This makes it a more viable solution for long term production.

Blue

Blue ammonia is produced from natural gas, but uses renewable energy sources or carbon capture to reduce emissions. Because natural gas is used in the production process, this is not a sustainable way of manufacturing ammonia.

Grey

Grey ammonia is the least climate friendly alternative. The production process produces large quantities of carbon dioxide and it’s mainly produced from natural gas.

AMMONIA

Developing the green fuel of the future. As all nations across the world are working towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, hydrogen has emerged as a leading carrier of clean energy. Hydrogen is expected to supply approximately 20% of the worlds energy demand by 2050, compared to less than 1% as of today. Ammonia produced from green hydrogen has become the leading carbon free fuel candidate for the shipping industry.

OUR

LOCATION

Tromsø, an excellent location for the production of green maritime fuels. Apart from being surrounded by untouched nature wonders and unspoiled wilderness, Tromsø is the ideal location for the establishment of the green energy hub. Tromsø is one of Norway’s largest ports and hubs for the transport of goods and people, including fisheries, frozen fish export, and tourism. In the coming years, the Northeast Passage is expected to play a large role in maritime traffic.
